MEET THE ARTIST

Bill Nelson was born and raised in Moss Point, Mississippi and attended the Memphis College of Art in Tennessee. After a career in San Francisco, Nelson returned home to Moss Point and began painting rural landscapes and river scenes. Twelve years later, he served as curator for the Ohr-Okeefe Museum of the Arts in Biloxi and remained there until Hurricane Katrina.

Since the storm, Nelson’s work has been quite visable as he is painting several outdoor murals in downtown Moss Point. The scenes vibrantly depict the city’s scenes of the past and present. Nelson says he’s glad to be giving back to his community.

The Christmas by the River committee is proud to showcase Bill Nelson’s artwork as the featured artist representing the festival in 2007.
